Your rating is becoming the operating system of pickleball. DUPR overhauled its algorithm to rate players on expected score margin rather than wins and losses, was named the official rating across every UPA property including the PPA Tour and MLP, and partnered with InstaCourts to pull open play matches into the system.
That last part is the big one. Ratings used to be something tournament players had. Now your Tuesday night open play could feed the same number.
Why it matters: whoever owns the rating owns the default player record, which means owning seeding, league placement, and eventually how you find games at your level. More accurate ratings are genuinely good for regular players. A single private rating becoming the sport's plumbing deserves a watchful eye. Both things are true.
