Selkirk's shopping spree

September 29, 2026

A giant hand places small paddle shops into an oversized shopping cart

Selkirk raised $30M for the stated purpose of buying other paddle brands. Then it bought Bread and Butter, the cult independent label, and kept its brand and leadership intact.

This is the buy it archetype. Instead of out innovating the challengers, the incumbent buys them. Bread and Butter keeps its name on the paddle, but the balance sheet belongs to Selkirk now.

Why it matters: for recreational players, consolidation cuts both ways. Bigger companies can fund better warranties and wider distribution. They can also quietly raise prices once the scrappy competitor is no longer forcing them to compete. Selkirk now has the capital and its first acquisition. Whether Bread and Butter is a one off or the beginning of a pickleball house of brands is what we are watching next.
