Who gets to be loud

October 20, 2026

The week's biggest argument started with a clip: Maria Ford beating Genie Bouchard at the Chicago Cup, screaming after nearly every point, Bouchard refusing the post match handshake. It went viral Oct 13.

Jim Kloss posted a draft anti taunting rule and used Kate Fahey as his example. Anna Bright fired back on X: go watch paint dry if you want to eliminate screaming. Fahey called the framing disingenuous, saying it polices women's yelling while ignoring men's net trash talk. One caveat matters: no actual PPA rule proposal exists. This is a draft and a debate, not a policy.

Delight of the week: Brene Brown told Dan Harris she got addicted in 30 minutes and kept telling her open play partner to lock in until he said, no, you're kind of scary.

Why it matters: Every open play session has this argument in miniature. The new layer is who the policing falls on. Women players say the scrutiny lands hardest on them, and this week the pros said it out loud.
